New Library Use Exceeds Expectations
Visitation was up over 50 percent from the month of March 2006. During opening month, library patrons checked out more than 45,000 books, DVDs and audiovisual items. Staff issued 2,355 new library cards during the first month, an average of more than 65 each day the library was open. In comparison, staff issued 2,802 cards during the entire previous year.
“The largest growth was in our youth programming, which was up nearly 100 percent over March of last year,” said Library Manager Diane Knight. “That is particularly interesting as children’s programming was already experiencing triple digit growth over the previous few years.
“We are excited that our new library is attracting so many people of all ages. Our long-time patrons and our new users have expressed so much excitement about our new facility. We finally have the library this community deserves.”
The Georgia Murray Building is located at 411 Stafford St., adjacent to the Folsom Zoo Sanctuary and the Community Center.
